-National Palace Museum Unveils Liberation Anniversary Video at Terminal 1 on August 1-
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation (Gwangbok), the National Palace Museum of Korea (Director: Chung Yongjae), under the Korea Heritage Service, in collaboration with the Korea Heritage Agency (President: Lee Gwiyoung) and Incheon International Airport Corporation, will present a new media art piece titled Gwangbok, 80th Birthday Party starting August 1. The video will be screened on the Traditional Culture Media Wall at the arrivals hall of Incheon International Airport Terminal 1.
The Traditional Culture Media Wall is one of the first cultural spaces travelers encounter upon arrival in Korea. Installed along the moving walkways, this large-scale LED screen showcases high-resolution videos inspired by Korean traditional culture, offering a warm and elegant welcome to both domestic and international visitors.
The newly launched video reinterprets the joy of liberation from a contemporary perspective, using media art to evoke a sense of celebration and national well-being. Drawing inspiration from traditional royal paintings—Ten Symbols of Longevity (Sipjangsaengdo) and Peony Painting (Morando)—the artwork conveys messages of peace, prosperity, and hope. The same video will also be shown at the Media Wall in the connecting passageway from Exit 5 of Gyeongbokgung Station to the National Palace Museum of Korea.
The video blends traditional imagery with soft, modern colors and a mystical ambiance. Through a gradual transition from darkness to light, it symbolically depicts Korea’s liberation. The dynamic movements of animals awakening and coming to life greet travelers passing through the arrivals area. Toward the end, vibrant peony blossoms—symbols of abundance and harmony—fill the screen, conveying a festive atmosphere and a hopeful vision for Korea’s future.
To celebrate the launch, a three-day event will take place from August 1 to 3 at the Korea Heritage Visitor Center in Terminal 1. Visitors can watch the video, take photos at a special photo zone, and receive traditional cultural souvenirs, which will be given to 900 participants.
In addition, joint promotional efforts with Jeju Air will feature captured scenes from the Gwangbok, 80th Birthday Party media art alongside the slogan “A New Journey with K-Heritage” in various advertising formats. These campaigns will include cultural activities and social media events, offering travelers worldwide innovative and interactive opportunities to engage with Korean heritage.
